Hey All

Texas Ferret Lovers Rescue is getting at least 70 ferrets from the Rainbow Exotics Breeder.
Millie said some of the things she needs are:
POTTY BOXES FROM WALMART - they have these little rectangular boxes for cats $2.39 and they fit perfect in the Super Pets
Latch on Crockpot bowls or those that fasten to the cage
baby blankets or those fleece throws
Just hoping we can get the donations to pay the vet bill (all ferrets will be fixed HERE, will receive all vaccinations, and I want to give them microchips if it has to come out of my personal pocket).

Texas Ferret Lovers Rescue is 501(c)3.
We have known Millie for many years. I trust her. I am sending a check, to pay some of the Vet Bills. She has been a rescue for a long time. If you like I can get her Vet's name and you can send money directly to them. It will take a couple of days as Millie's hands are quite full right now.

They are making phone calls trying to get some food donated. I Think someone named Staci who lives in Houston is doing the calls.

This rescue has been in the works for a while. Rainbow took all of their breeders to Pennsylvania to sell them. Not all of the ferrets sold. They were bringing them back to Texas to get rid of them. I think they were going to bring them to Millie at that time. Some how the word got out. National organizations got involved. Then Rainbow was going to keep them. Then last Friday Millie sent an email that they were coming. Rainbow called her about 8:00 AM today to say the are on the way. She needs help today but I didn't find out about it until about 10:00 AM and I didn't figure any of us could make it in time to be of any good. Maybe in the near future some of us can go up and help. If it is needed.

Thats the Bad News. The Good News is Rainbow Exotics is not going to breed ferrets anymore. They have quit breeding because PetSmart is Not going to sell ferrets anymore. YEAAAAA for more reasons than one.

Here is an update from Millie.

It's been an experience but

13 were taken to the vet and are now microchipped all the rest have been washed, ears cleaned, treated for mites and fleas.

All in all these are gorgeous ferrets. They were all fat and rather healthy. One ferret chewed up pretty bad but the vet felt it was infections and ear mites.........he had big infected holes in him - bad enough to keep him overnight as well as another boy that had the cauliflower ears. We ran across two more that are going into the vet as soon as possible due to the same conditions. Females we really can't tell but on two, well two we think are pg. Going to take some time.
And one female has a very bad rearend pure raw meat no skin.......and two females have the uterus infections. The rest were sweet and loveable, especially the boys, and just gorgeous.

Still can use more volunteers that although we have them in cages with id and clean, we need to itemize things more, I will be getting vaccines in shortly and could use help with that. So much more needs to be done.

Let me know if anyone from Houston needs a place to stay in the area.

I will try to help with that and also accompany them to work at the rescue helping Millie.

Hello everyone!
I live in Dallas now and was able to help Millie on the 4th, although I regret that I got out there sort of late (around 3:30) but I tried to help where I could. All of the girls were taken care of already and they were working on the boys. Giving them baths, cutting ther nails, cleaning their ears, and then assigning them a cage.
Major, major kudos to everyone out there helping. I thought that it was well organized and that all of the fuzzies got the attention and care that they needed.
As for the furries themselves, they were pretty good despite all of the strangers handling them. Hardly any wiggle-worms in the group, and the majority were just content being held, politely looking around at all of the goings-on. I cannot tell you how wonderful their temperaments are.
The day was finally over around 9:00 p.m. and I think that everyone was really exhausted. All of the little ones were pleasantly sleeping in warm blankets, fed and watered, medicine taken if needed, and exhausted from the days goings on.
Personally, I had a blast :^)
